The Antarctic Ecosystem

Old Whalers Church at Grytviken Whaling Station – The old whalers’ church has been restored on the hill above the harbor at Gyitviken, now a whaling museum. Grytviken is the whaling station where Ernest Shackelton and a crew of 27 departed in December 1914 in their unsuccessful attempt to cross the Antarctic continent. A few year later, Shackleton died on board a ship off Grytviken, and he’s buried there in the whalers’ cemetery.
