Yaquina Lighthouse The lighthouse is located 3 miles north of Newport in central Oregon. It has the distinction of being the tallest lighthouse on the Oregon coast. I have been there in July & late August. The wildflowers had mostly disappeared by the end of August. I explored the tide pools at low tide at the surrounding black cobbledstone(no sand)rocky beach. The purple colored sea urchins were plentiful. There is a point next to the lighthouse filled with nesting seabirds: Pelagic Cormorants,Brandt’s Cormorants,Pigeon Guillemots & Murres. In August ’12 gray whales were present as well.
