Fall Photography Show at the Sterling Morton Library – Prospectus
MAPS has teamed up with Rita Hassert, Head Librarian at the Sterling Morton Library, for a special project to give our members an opportunity to display their images – printed and digital – at the Sterling Morton Library. This project will be known as the “Fall Photography Show at the Sterling Morton Library”. Printed images will be displayed in mats with sleeves on large exhibit panels, and digital images will be displayed in a looped slideshow that will run on a large monitor.
Participation in this project is open to all MAPS members in good standing. There is no fee for participation in this project.
Members wishing to participate will have the choice to submit one printed image and/or three digital images. The theme for this project will be “fall”, so the submission will need to have something to do with the season of fall. For instance, fall leaves, trees, colorful autumn landscapes, pumpkins and gourds are a few examples of things that make us think of fall. The image must have nature as its focus. Non-nature items can be a small part of the image, but not the focus. We hope that many of the images submitted will be ones taken at The Morton Arboretum; however, the images can be taken anywhere. These do not need to be new images; it does not matter if they have been in a previous MAPS exhibit.
You will be submitting your images as JPEGs. JPEGS should be submitted between Sept.1-15. Your JPEGs should be sent as attachments via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Mary will let you know that she has received your submission. In your email, please let Mary know if you are intending to print your image for display. If you want to print, you can take it to be printed or print it yourself in one of two sizes: either 8” x 10” or 11” x 14”. No other sizes will be accepted. MAPS will provide mats and sleeves to hang your image; we will not be framing these images. We have room for about 50 prints, so we will accept submissions on a first-come basis.
We will also be running a slideshow of digital images on a large monitor at the library. You can submit three images for display in the slideshow. Let Mary know your images are intended for display in the digital slideshow.
When you email your images, please format your JPEGs as follows:
- Size them 2000 pixels on the longest side
- Use a resolution between 200-300
- Do not let the size exceed 1 MB
- Sept. 1 – image submission begins
- Sept. 15 – image submission ends
- Oct. 8 – printed image drop off at MAPS monthly meeting at Thornhill at 6:00 p.m.
- Oct. 12-14 –Show runs in the Sterling Morton Library
- Oct. 14 – 12:00-2:00 – Reception in the May T. Watts Reading Garden ( a walled garden just outside the library)
- Nov. 12 – Pick up prints at MAPS monthly meeting at Thornhill at 6:00 p.m.
