The Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve was busy with nesting double breasted cormorants, cattle egrets, black crowned night herons, and great blue herons. The uniqueness was seeing all five of these species nesting together. We had the perfect morning to capture images of the rookery. Our challenge was attempting to capture images of the birds from afar and as they flew across the lake or overhead. Our guides into the rookery provided bird scopes and binoculars which gave us the opportunity to view the nesting behavior of the various species and to view the active young fledglings. We then headed to Southern Belle’s for a hearty breakfast!
