Photo Outings for 2017

Each month MAPS selects a location around the Chicagoland area to go for a Photo Outing. The major theme for these outings is nature. We select one outing per month and you can see when and where we go in the Calendar.  Please note that you can sign up for each event as listed below by following the specified link, and also note that by signing up for each event you are agreeing to the MAPS Photo Outing Waiver of Liability..

  • November 30, 2017 – Illuminations Photo Outing.  MAPS members didn’t have to brave the cold at all for this year’s ILLUMINATION unlike those who braved the record cold temps on Nov. 18, 2014, to shoot images of the beautiful light exhibit at the Arboretum on November 30, 2017. Night photography is always a challenge, but this year with the pleasant weather, 30 MAPS members didn’t have to worry about frozen fingers and could take their time composing and shooting. Before we hit the trail, all enjoyed our speaker for the evening, Bill Miotek, a long time MAPS member and also our MAPS Board Secretary. Bill’s talk helped us to understand the best approach to capturing various Illumination scenes.  Thank you Bill!

Thirty-five MAPS members attending the outing enjoyed styling their still life images, playing with composition, backgrounds and mancopy props from home.  MAPS provided colorful fruits, vegetables and flowers; natural organics for members to try with various antique items.

They experimented with about 8-10 different lighting stations including a variety of light set-ups, light tents, soft boxes, a green screen, shooting table and various LED portable units.
