Postponed due to weather!

All Aboard for the next MAPS outing to the Illinois Railway Museum Diesel Days event, Saturday, July 23 in Union, IL.  MAPS families and friends, children and grandchildren are also encouraged to attend!

Diesel Days highlights the museum’s many operable diesel locomotives and various equipment.  Photo opportunities include unique and vintage equipment and gear on the property as well as the operating trains. Train rides will be available throughout the day. The Illinois Railway Museum website is, and for a hint of additional photo possibilities, see the Out of Chicago website.  Chris Smith recommends that you bring a wide and a close-up lens.

Plan to meet MAPS members at 2:00 PM at the main museum entrance (#3 on the map, towards the north end of the parking lot.)

Please bring your member lanyard to identify yourself as a MAPS member when entering to receive a $2 discount if there are 25 or more in our group.

Standard adult admission to the grounds is $14, so if enough members and others attend, the admission would be $12 per person.

MAPS has made arrangements to allow our group to remain on the IRM grounds past closing until 7:00 PM to take advantage of better light and fewer people on the grounds.  At 5:00 PM the trains stop running and at 6:00 PM the museum grounds normally close.  Between 5-6 PM, the museum typically stages equipment for the following day.

Tripods are fine. Please be careful of moving railroad equipment, children, and families while at the museum. Safety first.

Hosts for this event are Bill Miotek and Barbara Work.

Concessions are available on the museum grounds – snacks, candy, popcorn, soda, water, hotdogs, etc., typical family type fare.

If members would like to meet-up after the event, this nearby bar and grill has been recommended.

Time Out Sports Bar and Grill on Route 20, near Harmony Road between the IRM and the tollway entrance.
