July 22, 2017 – Ball Horticultural Gardens, West Chicago – Saturday, 7:30-10:00AM

The day started off rainy, but all was clear by 8:00 am. We left the shelter of our cars and wandered out into the beautiful gardens at Ball. All the flowers were covered in raindrops. Photo opps weren’t hard to find. Later the sun came out, and it got really hot. A few of us left to go catch brunch at the Egg Yolk.

Thanks to Susan Schmitz for getting us into Ball once again, and thanks to Hester Bury for hosting our outing. Susan wanted to share the following:

There are other options for visiting the gardens at Ball this summer. This coming Sunday, July 30 the gardens are open to the public for The Garden Conservancy Open Day event- $7 cash per adult (tax deductible donation to The Garden Conservancy), children under 11 free, from 10-4pm. Garden tours are offered at no charge and for the first time, tours will be offered through the lab research areas- it’s pretty amazing if I do say so.

The gardens only will be open to the public on every Saturday in August from 9-noon. No fee, no tours, but employees will be handing out visitor guides and answering basic questions. Port-o-potties will be available during all of these events. I sure hope everyone gets a chance to stop by- lots of beautiful flowers and displays to see this summer!
