Who doesn’t love orchids? So why not join a MAPS photographic outing to Orchids By Hausermann in Villa Park. It promises to be a fun time for all.
Established in 1920, Orchids By Hausermann is one of the oldest and largest orchid growers in the Midwest. They are a 5th generation, family-run business with three acres of orchid greenhouses. Participants should meet at 9:45am in Hausermann’s parking lot at 2N134 Addison Road in Villa Park. Once they open a MAPS representative will go in first to announce the group’s arrival.
Since some of the aisles in the greenhouses are narrow, you may wish to keep your gear to the minimum you feel is required to photograph orchids. Although tripods are fine, some may wish to use monopods (including those with folding legs) to conserve space. You may want to bring backgrounds as well.
Some things to note: There is no fee for this outing. As you arrive, be sure to check in with your MAPS representative to receive a raffle ticket for a drawing of a gift card. Those who do not win, feel free to purchase an orchid to take home if you like. While shooting, you may find the need to re-position a plant in order to get your shot. If you do, please do so with care and return it to its original spot when you’re finished. Also, please be mindful of others around you who may be working or shopping in the greenhouse.
