Morton Arboretum MAPS Spring Exhibition
May 2025

2025’s MAPS Nature Photography Exhibit welcomed over 1,200 visitors during a beautiful Mother’s Day weekend. Fifty-four artists presented 150 nature-themed photographs featuring landscapes and scenes from around the world. Many attendees shared that the exhibit allowed them to relive memories of places they had visited, both locally and abroad. Several also commented that the quality and curation of the exhibit exceeded their expectations.
For some MAPS members, this was their first time exhibiting, and they expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share their work with others. The Friday night reception was a lively and welcoming gathering of nearly 200 guests, including members, friends, and art enthusiasts. The event offered time for meaningful conversation, discussion of photographic techniques, and creative framing options.
The success of this spring’s exhibit was made possible entirely through the hard work of MAPS volunteers. Their dedication and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the event. Volunteer efforts began months in advance with careful planning and continued through every phase of setup, operation, and takedown. Roles included helping members bring in their artwork, acting as runners, directing traffic at the entrance, checking in bin art, inspecting each entry, creating and attaching labels to all pieces, collecting money, moving artwork into the Cudahy Room, installing batteries and hanging lights, assembling the hanging system, and installing every piece of art. Volunteers also purchased candy and other supplies, designed and filled raffle baskets, coordinated logistics with The Morton Arboretum staff, monitored the back gift table, sold raffle tickets, greeted visitors, shared information about MAPS and the exhibit, and handled all aspects of disassembly at the end of the weekend.
Additionally, the Communications Committee created and staffed a dedicated MAPS table in the Visitor Center. This space featured MAPS images and membership information, helping to attract new interest and direct traffic to the exhibit in the Cudahy Room. Committee members and exhibit volunteers ensured the table was welcoming and well-staffed throughout the weekend.
Exhibit organizers, Mary Mehl and Dulcey Lima extend their sincere thanks to everyone who exhibited their incredible work and to all the volunteers who brought this exhibit to life. A very special thank you goes to Lauren Incrocci, MAPS liaison with The Morton Arboretum, for her exceptional coordination and support. We are also grateful to The Morton Arboretum for promoting our event and providing the beautiful outdoor environment and the lovely Cudahy Room, the perfect setting for showcasing nature-inspired photography.
