Get ready for another exciting photo opportunity! The MAPS Outings Committee invites you to Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens in Rockford, Illinois, to explore the stunning conservatory and the “Secret Life of Butterflies” exhibit.
About the Location and Exhibit

Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens, nestled along the Rock River, offers an 11,000-square-foot plant exhibition area, the Eclipse Lagoon with fountains and a pedestrian bridge connecting to the Sinnissippi Rose Garden. We will also (optionally) experience the “Secret Life of Butterflies” exhibit, where you can witness the fascinating lifecycle of butterflies and moths. Get up close and personal with native and exotic butterflies inside the butterfly house!
Event Details
- Conservatory Exploration (10:00 AM – 11:30 AM): We will begin by exploring the beautiful conservatory grounds, taking in the tropical plants, water features, and sculptures. This is a great opportunity to capture photos of the lush surroundings and enjoy the serene atmosphere. More details about the conservatory are on their website at: https://nicholasconservatory.com/
- Butterfly Exhibit (11:30 AM – 12:30 PM): Following our conservatory tour, we have the option to visit the “Secret Life of Butterflies” exhibit.
Admission and Ticketing
- General Admission: If you are a Morton Arboretum member, you will receive free general admission to the conservatory. (Others will need to pay $5 per person for discounted Tuesday admission.)
- Butterfly Exhibit Tickets: This exhibit requires a separate admission and ticket ($5 per person.) Advanced purchase is highly recommended. Currently tickets are available at 11:30 and 11:45 but may not be available for purchase yet on the website. Logistics
- Meeting Point: We will gather at the main entrance of the conservatory at 10:00 AM.
- Duration: The outing will last 1.5 – 2.5 hours, concluding at 11:30 AM (if you skip the butterfly exhibit) or 12:30 PM (if you attend the butterfly exhibit).
- RSVP: To ensure an accurate headcount, kindly RSVP by April 15, 2025, using the registration form (link forthcoming in separate email.)
