MAPS 2nd Annual Nature Photography Exhibit
The Morton Arboretum
March 2013
The MAPS Nature Photography Exhibit 2013 was a great success! We had 57 MAPS members exhibiting 150 photographic works of art; it was quite a stunning display. Tina Tyson-Dunne, MAPS Exhibit Chair and Mary Mehl, Co-Chair worked diligently to get all the artwork hung and raffles ready, but could not have accomplished all this without the help of Holly Tyson, Karen Johnson and Suzanne Wegener. Greg Blue and Steven Mayer set up our new AV equipment so our visitors could view shows of members’ images on our new big screen monitor. We all worked hard to get the exhibit off to a great start.
Our 3 day event began with a wonderful reception on Friday evening in the Sycamore Room. The artists and their friends and families got a first glimpse of the exhibit and the 20 raffle prizes. Diana Chrisman and Cora Jacobs had several volunteers bring delicious desserts and worked hard to make sure we all had plenty of goodies to enjoy throughout the night. It was an amazing turnout!
We had many more visitors on Saturday and Sunday, and we received several nice compliments about the exhibit. Some of the artists were able to make arrangements for the sale of their exhibited artwork, and many pieces of their donated art were sold as well. Raffle tickets sales went well, and we were able to offer some wonderful prizes thanks to all the generous donors that included Calumet Photo, Hank Erdmann & his Lake Effect Photography Club, DuPage Framing Center, IT Supplies, Carlson’s Art, Starbucks of Lombard, McNally’s Pub in St. Charles, Holly Tyson, Judy Kepshire, Clara’s Pasta, Movie Studio Grill, Aurelio’s Pizza, Jameson’s Charhouse, Suparossa Restaurant, Colbert Custom Framing & Art Printing, and Cabana Charlie’s. Raffle winners were picked Sunday afternoon just before the close of the exhibit, and the winners walked away with big smiles.
A successful exhibit can only be accomplished with the help of a lot of volunteers. A huge thank you goes out to those MAPS members who helped us on Referee night, and to those who brought in the yummy desserts for the Reception. We also want to thank those volunteers who came in to greet our guests and manage raffles during the exhibit. And most of all, thanks to those of you who stayed and helped us close up everything at the end of the exhibit. We really could not have done this without all your help!
Looking forward to future exhibits…
Tina & Mary
