From a Childhood Science Project to a Career Behind the Lens in Israel
Mon, Aug 17, 2026 - 12:00 pm-2:00 pm
Zoom Only and Recorded
The M.A.P.S. Women’s Group presents this special program by photographer Rebecca Kowalsky. who left Chicago for Israel in 1985. As her family grew, so did her passion for photography, especially street photography and artistic landscape photography, spanning the Land of Israel, and the world over.

Here is more about the program and Rebecca in her own words: “My passion for photography began with a childhood science project, long before I ever imagined it would become my life’s work. That early curiosity grew into a career when I started volunteering my time for a women’s group, and from there my business and my calling took root. For me, the word landscape has never meant just a scene in nature. It means the vineyards of Gush Etzion, the light on the Mediterranean, the worn stones of the Western Wall, two nuns sharing a quiet moment in a Jerusalem market. I am drawn equally to the human landscape and the natural one, and I have never been able to limit myself to just one corner of this craft, I shoot portraits, events, nature, and fine art, and I have published books along the way. As a woman building a career in a field that has long been male dominated, I have learned that passion and persistence open doors. I hope to leave you with the same belief, that whatever you are passionate about is worth documenting, for yourself, for others, and for eternity.”
