Photojournalism Principles and Practices: Using Your Images for a Worthwhile Cause

This month’s program will focus on the principles and practices photojournalists use to persuade a target audience to act. Program presenter Roger Mattingly is a visual storyteller who will share his professional experience as a photojournalist to explain how his techniques can be used to strengthen the message of a worthy cause. Photojournalists can bring important issues to the attention of people who can make a difference. Whether you are shooting pictures at a dog shelter to post on a web site or volunteering for a green cause, your images can focus on the essence of the issue and communicate your story.

About Our Speaker

For over 50 years, Roger Mattingly has provided images of products, people, and food to agency designers and directly to corporate buyers. He is known for making something out of nothing, and his experience creating thousands of successful assignments is now enhanced with the creative magic of digital photography and Photoshop.

Roger’s first job, after graduating from the University of Missouri School of Journalism with a specialization in photojournalism, was a war correspondent in Vietnam. Later, he was hired to shoot for some of America’s largest corporations—AT&T, Ameritech, Searle Pharmaceuticals, and NutraSweet Corporation. He created pictures that tell stories for corporate, in-house publications. Since 1995, Roger has been the President of Star Digital Imaging, Inc., providing digital capture and enhancement with various digital cameras and Photoshop. He shoots for advertising, brochures, catalogs, and websites. Roger is the current president of MAPS.
