Photojournalism & People Skills

Two award-winning internationally published photo journalists will share their secrets with you. MAPS very own Roger Mattingly & R. E. Potter III. If you want to do photojournalism you will need to sharpen your people picture skills because that’s what the client will expect.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to make:

  •   Simple headshots on location with bounce flash with reflectors
  •   Simple small group shots with bounce flash or umbrellas.
  •   Compelling people shots involved in activities.

What to bring to the Workshop :

  1. Camera and Speed-light flash.
  2. Lens I suggest semi-wide to short telephoto zoom. Something like a 24-100mm or 35-70mm.
Your favorite flash accessory, that could be a diffuser or bounce card or reflector.
  3. Remote TTL Flash cord if you have one.
  4. Formatted and empty memory card.

IMPORTANT

  • To participate in the hands-on portion of this workshop with critique you must have an empty formatted memory card for your camera and only shoot JPEGs during the workshop.
  • CAUTION formatting your memory card will delete all images that are on it. If you don’t know how to save the images and format the memory card look it up in your camera manual or go to YouTube (or even easier go to Micro Center and buy a new Memory Card).
  • Charge your camera and your flash batteries ahead of time.
