Have Camera, Will Travel with Tim O’Brien

For some people, their camera case is the biggest piece of luggage that they take on a trip. Others just pull out their phone to take selfies or snapshots at famous landmarks. If you are somewhere in between, this workshop is for you.

Finding a balance between photography and other activities on a trip can take some planning and effort, especially if you are traveling with a group. In this program, we will discuss some ways to do this, to keep your photography from ruining your trip and vice versa.

Topics to be covered:

  • Equipment: how to decide what to take and what to leave behind.
  • How to travel amicably with non-photographers, but still make time to find good images.
  • Getting a good photograph from a moving vehicle. Travel companies that I use.
  • Websites where you can find interesting places to visit and photograph
  • Some of the more interesting places that I have visited and photographed.
  • Ideas for getting a better, or just a different shot of a famous landmark
  • Suggestions for improving your travel photos in post processing, including photo merge panorama.

Difficulty level: Beginners, intermediate, and advanced students can all benefit from this workshop.

Class size: Limited so sign up early. Register here!

About Tim O’Brien, instructor:

Tim O’Brien is a widowed, retired clinical psychologist. As a young boy, he got a Kodak brownie camera, which he used at least occasionally through college. But he did not really get into photography until he met his wife, who had a Nikon SLR film camera and developed and printed from her own B/W film. Vacation photos were primarily of the family having fun. But Tim would always use at least a couple frames of the film roll for a beautiful landscape, sunset, or some wildlife. After his wife died Tim filled part of that hole by joining the Morton Arboretum and taking photography classes. A couple of years later he retired and started to travel more extensively (having found a couple of good groups and a wonderful woman to travel with.) His camera goes on every trip he takes.
