Bird Photography from Start to Finish
Mon, Dec 14, 2026 - 7:00 pm-8:30 pm
Morton Arboretum Thornhill Center and Zoom

This month’s presentation is designed for bird photography enthusiasts—beginners or experienced—who want to improve their skills in finding, approaching, and photographing birds. Join Travis Layton for an evening dedicated to bird photography. Travis will guide you through the entire process, from finding birds locally and while travelling, to understanding bird behavior, getting closer to your subjects, photographing perched birds and birds in flight, choosing camera settings, working with light and composition, and avoiding common mistakes.
Attendees will gain actionable ideas and techniques to immediately improve their bird photography on their next outing.

Our speaker, Travis Layton, is known online as “Trav in the Bush.” He is a Canadian bird photographer, educator, and workshop leader. A former wilderness guide, Travis spent nearly five years leading multi-day hiking, sea kayaking, and dog-sledding expeditions across Canada before turning his focus to photography education. Today, he leads bird photography workshops and creates educational content that helps photographers improve their skills both in the field and behind the camera. In 2025, Travis became a Nikon Canada Ambassador, and his photography tutorials and wildlife stories have reached hundreds of thousands of nature enthusiasts across social media.
